Background Overview

.
Having studied Communication Arts (Radio, TV & Film/Journalism) and Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, I now have more than 35 years of award-winning experience in media, public relations and communications. During that time, I’ve effectively and tirelessly served locally, regionally, nationally and internationally – in the United States, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Puerto Rico – in media/communications management/staff positions and as a consultant/contractor for: corporations, publishers (newspaper, magazine and book), broadcasters (radio, TV and cable), hospital/health care and educational concerns, government agencies, charitable secular and religious organizations, record labels and artists, athletes and politicians. I’ve also worked for many years as a personal, professional, youth, parent and family advocate, both as a long-time law enforcement chaplain and in professional positions at the historic Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home at Boys Town, Nebraska. Those successful efforts include serving as a:

- conception, development, implementation and management of marketing campaigns, distribution and design/redesign plans;
- personnel/staff recruitment, development, training, team building and supervision (up to 25 staff and more than 200 volunteers);
- development and management of budgets of up to $60M and expense-reduction/cost-saving initiatives;
- community relations (working with individuals, businesses, non-profits, religious groups, government agencies, elected officials, internationally known professional performing artists and athletes, and others) and volunteer recruitment, management and retention;
- planning, sales, marketing, management, fund development and sponsorship of some/all elements of conferences, conventions, concerts, banquets, golf outings and benefits which hosted from hundreds to an estimated one million people; and

Training, Activity & AchievemenT HIGHLIGHTS
.

Resident Director of International Media Relations for the largest event ever held at Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia (with the exception of the 1980 Olympics); Executive Producer of consecutive record-setting TV telethons for the Arthritis Foundation; Executive Producer of a multiple award-winning video project with one of the Green Bay Packers; Writer and Co-Editor of multiple award-winning PBS documentary on environmental issues and conflict resolution; and Regional Marketing Director responsible for maintaining and enhancing a $14M revenue stream for a national cable TV company, continually posting corporate records for new subscriber and retention initiatives.

As an employee of Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home at Boys Town, Nebraska — in both professional residential care and high school administration positions/settings — through work with other well known international organizations, and as the founder of an international chaplaincy to police, fire, EMS, military, education and government officials, I’ve worked with children, adults, parents and families with serious academic, educational, emotional, medical, physical, psychological, professional,and relationship disabilities, obstacles and challenges. In addition, through professional and volunteer work with such organizations, I’ve been a leader of or participant in a wide variety of personal and professional development training events accounting for approximately 3,000 hours of training in conflict resolution, corporate and interpersonal communications, behavior modification, relationship and personal/professional development, family advocacy, and marriage and parenting skills.
In addition to my professional pursuits, I also worked for approximately 17 years as an interscholastic athletic official, including work as a state certified official for varsity and state tournament basketball, football, volleyball and softball, and coached youth athletic teams. I play trumpet, French horn, euphonium, saxophone and clarinet, and sung in numerous musical groups, and have performed with world-famous artists/groups. And since 1990, I’ve invested approximately 5,000 hours as a volunteer for numerous local, regional, national and international charitable and non-profit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, Prison Fellowship, Salvation Army and Special Olympics.
